This Canadian CF-188 (CF-18) performing a high speed pass during Friday's rehearsal came the closest any of the aircraft flying during the New York Air Show weekend to creating a vapor cone.

Unfortunately, this aircraft would be lost in a crash on July 23, 2010 during rehearsals for the Alberta International Air Show at Lethbridge County Airport (YQL / CYQL) in Alberta, Canada. Fortunately, Capt. Brian Bews (the same pilot photographed flying here) would eject successfully just before the aircraft struck the ground, suffering "only" compression fractures in three vertebrae. Capt. Bews is expected to fully recover and return to flight status.
